Design Systems x AI

AI can generate an interface in seconds. Whether it's something you can ship depends on whether it knows what your team has already built. In two hands-on live sessions, learn to connect your design system to an AI coding agent — and start generating shippable outputs at the speed of AI.

About the Session

In the AI era, your design system becomes critical infrastructure. AI that can read your system doesn't guess at spacing, invent button variants, or hand you hardcoded values. It builds from what your team already decided — which means outputs are closer to shippable, and you get there faster than ever.

This is the highest-leverage thing most teams can do with AI right now, and relatively few teams are doing it. The tools are good enough. The connection is what's missing.

Over two live sessions you'll learn to build that connection yourself — a source of truth the AI agent can read, a mapping between design components and code components, and a workflow where changes flow through without anyone hand-correcting the output.
You’ll walk away with:
A functioning sample integration you built yourself, end to end
Guidance on which approach fits your org — Code Connect, a mapping file, or a custom MCP — and why
The knowledge to build an integration plan for your real system, based on the learnings from the workshop
The session recording, available afterward

Who It’s For

This session is for designers and product professionals who want AI tools building from their design system rather than around it.

Illustration of person learning data-driven design

DESIGNERS AT COMPANIES WITH AN ESTABLISHED SYSTEM who want that system to show up in everything AI generates.

DESIGN SYSTEM AND PLATFORM TEAMS evaluating how to make their system legible to AI agents, and weighing Code Connect against the alternatives.

DESIGNERS BUILDING A SYSTEM NOW who want to set it up correctly for AI from the start, rather than retrofitting later.

You should be comfortable in Figma and have seen an AI coding tool before. You don't need to write code, and you don't need to be a developer.

Unlock the Power of Design Systems in the AI Era

YOU WILL LEARN

1
How to give an AI agent a source of truth it can actually read, so it builds from your system instead of guessing
2
How to map design components to code components, and what breaks when that mapping is missing
3
How to choose between Code Connect, a mapping file, and a custom MCP based on what your organization actually pays for and maintains
4
How to run a change through the whole loop — design to documentation to code — without hand-correcting the output
5
How to audit for drift so you catch it early instead of at review

Frequently Asked Questions

What tools or accounts will I need access to for the course?

Participants should have a Figma account with a full paid seat, a paid Claude account, and a GitHub login.

What if we don't have a design system yet?

You'll still be able to follow everything hands-on using the sample system we provide, and you'll leave knowing how to set yours up so the connection is straightforward rather than a retrofit. Several people in the room will be in the same position.

Do I need access to Code Connect?

No. We'll cover Code Connect and when it's worth it, but you won't need it to directly follow along.

Can I use my own design system?

Due to idiosyncrasies inherent to any design system, participants won't work directly on their own design systems in session. That said, the goal of the workshop is to give you the knowledge and frameworks necessary to apply the learnings to your own design system directly after the second session. For teams interested in a more bespoke workshop involving your specific design system, please set up a time to chat with our team about team training.

What if my company uses ChatGPT, Codex, or Cursor instead of Claude?

The concepts taught in the workshop transfer to any AI coding agent. That said, to keep the workshop on track and so everyone can follow along, we'll use one toolset in session.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. You'll work with code, but you won't be writing it from scratch.

Do I need to know Git?

No. We'll send a short primer beforehand to get you up to speed.

What if I can't attend live?

The recording is available afterward. That said, we strongly encourage attending live — the session is built around working through real screens together, and that’s hard to replicate on a replay.

what if I don't like the course?

All Lab Sessions are backed by The Designlab Happiness Promise. After you've fully participated in the course, if you're not satisfied you can get your money back. Read more here.

can i use my company's Learning & Development budget for this course?

Absolutely! Many of our participants use their company’s learning and development budget to attend Designlab programs. If you have any questions about how to do this during enrollment, please reach out via our Help Center contact form.

What if I’m part of a team that wants to take this course?

We’re happy to work with a team or company. Feel free to enroll everyone here or book a call with our team for more information on multi-seat discounts, custom trainings, and more.
