It's time to step up your prototyping game and go beyond simply connecting wireframes and making clickable buttons in Figma. This four-week course will help you build more robust prototypes that realistically demonstrate the specific interactions you’ve designed.
Course Summary
About this Course
How do you decide the appropriate fidelity level for your prototype? Do you have a go-to strategy for developing prototypes that makes sense to your collaborators? When building prototypes in Figma, can you confidently set up scrolling, gestural interactions, and animated transitions, making your prototype more realistic and implementable?
If the answer is no to any of these questions, this course will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to elevate your prototyping techniques and create high-fidelity, functional prototypes in Figma. By mastering prototyping, you will, in turn, enhance communication with stakeholders, facilitate early user testing, reduce development time and costs, and improve the user experience.
Prototyping in Figma is an in-depth four-week course designed to elevate an individual's skill level in building interactive prototypes in Figma from proficient to advanced. Participants will develop and implement their own strategies for creating prototypes at the appropriate fidelity level, then advance to building functional versions in Figma that accurately mimic intended user interactions. You'll gain the expertise to effectively present your design solutions to stakeholders and ensure seamless communication of wireframes and nuanced interactions to software developers.

Who It’s For
FOR UX/UI Design Professionals
This course is ideal for UX/UI designers looking to refine and update their skills creating highly interactive prototypes using Figma. This course suits those who are mid-level product designers, senior designers, freelance professionals, or team leads who want to stay up-to-date with evolving design practices and the field’s most prominent tool for creating interfaces, Figma.
Additionally, this course might benefit product managers, developers, and graphic design professionals who regularly engage with the process of prototyping digital experiences in Figma. That said, this is NOT a beginner course. Students will be expected to have a solid understanding of UX/UI principles as well as baseline proficiency with Figma.

Frequently Asked Questions
This course is for emerging and experienced UI/UX professionals who are familiar with the UX design process and have a working knowledge of Figma.
This is not a course for people who are entirely new to Figma. Students will be expected to have a solid understanding of UX/UI principles as well as baseline proficiency with Figma. Fundamental knowledge of UX/UI principles includes familiarity and experience with prototyping and interaction design where one creates simple prototypes and has understanding of basic interaction design concepts, such as wireframing, user flows, and usability testing. We also expect students coming into this course to have knowledge of visual design concepts such as layout/composition, color theory, typography.
If you’re just starting out in UX/UI design, we suggest taking UX Academy Foundations, a 4-8 week course that teaches the fundamentals of visual and user interface design.
If you’re interested in diving into autolayout, components, and variables in Figma we recommend our Advanced Figma course.
Our Advanced Figma course is not a prerequisite for Prototyping in Figma. Students can take these courses in any order, but if you’re planning to take both we recommend taking Advanced Figma first and Prototyping in Figma second unless you have a priority for mastering prototyping skills. Concepts that are taught in the Advanced Figma course are a good foundation for more efficiently building prototypes.
You’re able to use your own Figma account in the Prototyping in Figma course. If you don’t already have a Figma account, you’re able to get a free student account when taking the course.
Yes. Students who successfully complete the Prototyping in Figma course will receive a certificate that can be shared on Linkedin.
On Thursdays at 12pm ET we will host a 90-minute video lecture with the course creator. During this session we’ll explain core concepts and lead Figma demonstrations.
We recommend you attend the live sessions to get the most out of the learning experience, but if you are unable to attend you’ll be able to access a video recording of the session. Before attending your peer group session you should plan to watch this session and complete the exercises in the platform.
Unique to the advanced courses Designlab offers, Peer Group Sessions are regularly scheduled meetings where you connect with other students in the course to discuss the course work. These are facilitated by a professional product designer who has expert-level experience in the topic of the course. The Peer Group Sessions for this course will be held weekly for 60 minutes each.
After you enroll in the course, you’ll be emailed a link to confirm the course details and select your peer group time. You’ll be able to choose from the following peer group times:
- Mondays at 12pm ET (9am PT)
- Mondays at 6pm ET (3pm PT)
- Tuesdays at 12pm ET (9am PT)
- Tuesdays at 6pm ET (3pm PT)
You’ll meet with your peer group on the same day and at the same time each week of the course.
If you're interested in bundling this course with other advanced courses, you can save $200 for 2 courses, $375 for 3 courses, or $600 for 4 courses. To get started selecting your course bundle, go here.
We also offer a payment plan that allows you to pay half up front and half at the end of the course. To learn more, contact our admissions team.
Students will receive 3 hours of live instruction per week. Students should also plan to spend 4 - 6 hours per week on exercises and projects to get hands-on practice. The following milestones will exist each week:
- Thursday: Live video lectures lead by Nevan Scott
- Monday or Tuesday: Participants will meet with their mentor and peer group
- 48 hours after meeting with your peer group you should submit your project work on the platform
- 48 hours after submitting your project work you’ll receive feedback on your work from your mentor.
You’ll have some flexibility on when you complete coursework, but you should plan to have watched the recording of the video lecture and completed exercises before meeting with your peer group.
