About AI for the Lean Marketer

There’s no shortage of advice about AI tools and how marketers should be using AI—but much of it is either a poorly disguised sales pitch for a new tool, too shallow, or disconnected from the realities of day-to-day marketing work. For marketers focused on getting stuff done and driving results, that noise can quickly become overwhelming.

AI for the Lean Marketer was built to cut through it. This hands-on workshop series focuses on AI-powered workflows that are already saving marketers time right now—not speculative future use cases or basic “AI 101” explainers.

Across four focused sessions, you’ll learn how experienced practitioners are using AI to tackle real marketing problems: clarifying positioning, creating brand-consistent visuals, improving search performance in an AI-driven discovery landscape, and turning one strong asset into a multi-channel campaign. The emphasis is on reusable workflows, prompt frameworks, and systems you can apply immediately—whether you’re a generalist at a startup, part of a small growth team, or working inside a larger organization that wants to operate with lean-team speed.

Why We Built This Program

At Designlab, we’ve spent the last two years building hands-on AI programs for designers—and watching how quickly those tools moved from “interesting” to indispensable. As a marketer who’s spent most of my career at startups and small teams, I kept asking the same question: where does AI actually help marketers today?

The problem wasn’t a lack of ideas. It was the opposite. There’s an overwhelming amount of advice about AI for marketing—much of it abstract, repetitive, or disconnected from real workflows. So we set out to curate something different: a series focused on the places where AI is already making experienced marketers faster, more effective, and more creative.

Instead of covering everything, we went looking for people who are deeply fluent in a few highly practical workflows—things you can take back to work and use immediately. My hope is that you leave this series energized, confident, and equipped with systems you’ll keep using long after the sessions end.

Who is this workshop series best suited for?

AI for the Lean Marketer is best suited for experienced marketers who are actively doing the work and wearing multiple hats. That includes marketers at startups or small teams, agency marketers who need to move across strategy and execution, and entrepreneurs who are deeply involved in their own marketing.

It’s also a strong fit for marketers at larger organizations who want to operate with a leaner, more hands-on mindset—using AI to move faster, reduce friction, and get more done without relying on large teams or complex processes. This program assumes you already understand marketing fundamentals and want to apply AI to improve how you work.

Do I need prior experience using AI tools to participate?

We assume most participants will have experimented with tools like ChatGPT or other AI products, but may not yet have reliable, repeatable workflows.

This series is designed to help you move from casual experimentation to more structured, effective ways of using AI in your day-to-day marketing work.

Is this a good fit if I’m more specialized (e.g. SEO, content, growth)?

While the series is designed with marketing generalists in mind, specialists often benefit from understanding how adjacent workflows fit together.

If you’re open to learning outside your core focus area and want a more holistic view of how AI can support strategy, execution, and distribution, this series will be valuable.

What is the program format?

AI for the Lean Marketer is comprised of 4 days of live sessions across four weeks, with each day's session(s) lasting about 3 hours. Each session is instructor-led and hands-on, combining demos, guided practice, and plenty of time to experiment with the tools yourself. In addition to the live sessions you'll also have access to a Slack Community where you can connect with other participants and ask followup questions of the instructors.

‍Do I need to pay or sign up for any AI tools to prepare for the program?

We’re currently finalizing the exact list of tools used across the sessions. All enrolled participants will receive a detailed rundown of any recommended tools 1–2 weeks before the program begins, so you’ll have time to prepare.

In general, you should expect to sign up for a handful of AI tools, most of which offer free accounts or free trials. We intentionally try to limit required paid tools and, where possible, work with tool providers to make access easier for participants.

At a minimum, we recommend having access to a ChatGPT Plus (Pro) account, as it will be used across multiple sessions. Beyond that, we aim to keep any additional setup lightweight and accessible—and we’ll be clear in advance about what’s required versus optional.

Will I earn a certificate in this course?

Yes. Students who attend all sessions and/ or watch session recordings will receive a Certificate of Completion, which can be accessed from within the Designlab platform.

Do you offer any discounts?

What if I can’t attend all sessions live?

We strongly recommend attending live for the best experience—but if you can’t, replays will be available for all sessions.
